Dr. Seuss’ The Cat In The Hat
Product Description
This adaptation of the classic children’s book stars Mike Meyers (AUSTIN POWERS) as the wily talking cat with a tall striped hat and more than a few tricks up his sleeve. Set in a colorful make-believe world, the film tells the classic tale of a sister and brother, Sally (Dakota Fanning) and Conrad (Spencer Breslin), who pass a rainy afternoon with their crotchety baby sitter Mrs. Kwan (Amy Hill), during which they receive a visit from the mysterious Cat in the Hat, who leads them on a series of colorful, illogical, silly misadventures. Meanwhile their mother (Kelly Preston), her paranoid boss (Sean Hayes), and her phony boyfriend (Alec Baldwin), present obstacles for the children as they become part of the Cat’s chaotic world. With candy colored sets that pop off the screen and zany special effects that give the story a decidedly 21st century spin, this movie presents a fast-paced and very nontraditional rendering of Dr. Seuss. The rhyming lines that usually characterize Dr. Seuss stories are referenced here, but modern jokes that riff on television advertisements and pop psychology are given more importance. Dakota Fanning is utterly adorable as little Sally, and Thing 1 and Thing 2 are delightful in their chittering and acrobatics. A bright and happy film packed with dazzling stunts, DR. SEUSS’ THE CAT IN THE HAT is an entertaining treat.Amazon.com
The Cat in the Hat is a marketing ploy disguised as a wildly designed movie for hyperactive kids, and it could use a dose of Ritalin. It hardly matters, though, because kids will surely enjoy the rampant romp that occurs when the top-hatted feline convinces young Sally (Dakota Fanning) and Conrad (Spencer Breslin) to wreak havoc in the home their mother (Kelly Preston) has neatly prepared for an upcoming party. It’s all in the name of fun, and while Seuss’s classic rhymes are relegated to voice-over narration, director Bo Welch capitalizes on his background as one of Hollywood’s most gifted production designers (with credits including Edward Scissorhands and Men in Black), turning the Seussian town of “Anville” into a playful pastiche of pastels. As played by Mike Myers under layers of fur and latex, Dr. Seuss’s mischievous Cat is mayhem personified, and the movie suffers from his anything-goes approach to getting a laugh. And though Myers delivers a few laughs while channeling voices from his own comedic repertoire (including “Coffee Talk” maven Linda Richman), a little of this Cat goes a long way, and he nearly wears out his welcome. –Jeff Shannon

Okay, if you didn’t like The Grinch (trust me, I didn’t either), and don’t plan on going to see The Cat in the Hat, then you’re making a BIG MISTAKE! Here’s why. All of the songs and the rhyming in The Grinch ruined the movie. But in The Cat in the Hat, the narrator, who only narrates a little bit during the movie, is the only one who does the rhyming. Oh, and also the Fish does it a little bit too. Songwise though, there is only one song done by The Cat. All the rhyming and song is done at the beginning of the movie. But the best part is the movie’s humor. There’s no swearing and it’s just good fun. So if you just want to let loose, go see this movie.

Dr. Seuss’ The Cat In The Hat
i LOVED this movie. i thought it was halrious and Mike Myers was perfect for the role. There were laughs practically through the entire movie. And also there IS a lesson learned contrary to what my fellow reviewers have written. The two children learn to obey their mother and to love each other. Yes, there is some crude humor.. but uh,.. it says that as a warning so.. you can’t complain there. If you like to laugh, go see this movie. That’s basically all you will do.

Dr. Seuss’ The Cat In The Hat
This was such a GREAT movie. Most reviews I have read have just completely missed the whole point. Mike Meyers was amazing and the characters of the two children and mother just added to the fun. The family is supossed to be perfect but the boy in the family always does the opposite of what he is told. A nearby neighbor tries to send the boy to Military school but turns out to be a … and awful man. Great movie thats all i can say!!

For all you people trashing this film remember the age group this film was made. My two girls are 5 and 9, both are bright and intelligent. They love to have me read them books everyday. They are begging to see this film again and to own the dvd when it is released. So for all of you out there (critics included) who hate this movie, please get over it. Life is too short. Your child’s laughter and enjoyment should be more important.
