One of my favorite songs I sang it and cried and sang it some more. How my life was much like this song with both parents. It taught me to be a better parent than the ones I had. Thanks Harry Chapin.
Being in Iraq is tough. Man, I never though a song could bring on such strong emotions but this one hurts. I miss my boy everyday.
Time and time again we realize that the apple never falls far from the tree….no mattet how much one might feel that they will never do what was done to them….you can’t fight the genetics involved….we are who we are…and this songs tells the story so beautifully.
Bravo!!!! we’ll miss you Harry Chapin
@johnboy22246 Harry Chapin wrote this song for his son
@cutiecatgirlxx nope cat stevens wrote this song!!
I knew Harry personally and got to see him perform several times before his untimely death in July of 1981. He was tireless and one of the most decent human beings ever to walk on the planet. Harry, John Denver, and Jim Croce were all taken from us far too soon, but thank goodness they all left their legacy in their music.
Saw Harry at Applachian State back in early ’70’s ~ miss him so much
he kinda looks like robert pattinson
one of my favorite song!!! R.I.P Harry…
@cutiecatgirlxx His wife wrote the lyrics; Harry wrote the music and recorded it after their son was born so yes, it is the original.
Yes it was
“NSFW”– unless you don’t care if co-workers see you crying.

his wife has a piano bar in San Diego still open in his name
It’s great to see this wonderful, heartfelt song get so many views. I’m very glad that we have utube around so that we can share great music from days gone by. I am also thankful for Idol, Glee, Simpson, South Park, and other shows that steer younger generations to seek out this special songs. Thanks bagnon for posting!
This song gives me chills.

@mrabuckten Great to hear it mrab, good for you and for your kid(s). I watch this video alot and each time it strengthens my bond with my son (he’s 3 1/2) and reminds me that being a father is a gift, it’s an awesome responsibility and if you blink….you’ll miss it. All the best and thanks to Harry and his wife for a life changing song.
The song says so much. Oh, how I wish we could rewind life:(
The best song in the world
@lockheed10 :
Greedy record labels, Viacom and Clear Channels have applied the cookie-cutter creation of music today. They create “Artists”. Basically have music written and constructed in the studio and put a marketable talentless face on it. Just think “American Idol”. Most artists today can’t read, write or compose music, much less know how to play an instrument. Next time you hear more garbage on the radio, think “Spice Girls”. Same applies to hip hop these days as well.
Actually that baby boomer crap taught us how important family really is.
